A Better Way to Decide What Stays

When you’re decluttering and feel stuck, ask yourself this:
‘‘If I didn’t already own this, would I go out and buy it again?’’
This one question helps your decision get clear, fast. It moves you past guilt or sunk cost, and centers your decision on the life you’re living right now.
Try it with:
Clothes you haven’t worn in forever
Kitchen gear that seemed like a good idea at the time
Decor that no longer fits your style
Books, gifts, supplies you’re keeping “just in case”
If you wouldn’t spend money on it again today, it might be time to let it go.
It isn’t about being harsh, it’s about being honest. You don’t need to keep justifying things that don’t serve you anymore. Letting go of what’s not working will make space for what will.
Decluttering isn’t about getting rid of everything, it’s about keeping what matters. With every decision, you’re shaping a space that feels more like you. Start small, take your time, and let your space reflect what you truly value.
